1) Player roles
One of the great new features of EA Sports FC 25 is that we now have a complex and detailed system of tactical roles. These will concern how each individual player behaves on the pitch.
Each position will have its own set of roles. A winger, for example, will be able to fulfil three types of roles: the balanced winger, the winger who likes to cut inside and the winger who plays wide open on the side.
In all, the game will offer more than 50 roles, which will be indicated in the tactical design by special symbols. Let’s take a look:
- If a player has no symbol next to their chosen tactical role, it means that they know how to fulfil the role, but in a basic way;
- If a player has a + symbol next to their chosen tactical role, they know how to fulfil it very well;
- If a player has a ++ symbol next to their chosen tactical role, it means they are one of the world’s leading specialists in that role;
- If a player has an exclamation mark (!) next to their chosen tactical role, it means that they don’t know how to play the role and will probably jeopardise their formation.
The players’ favourite tactical roles in the game will take into account the way they play in real life, increasing the degree of immersion in the matches. We’ve already seen in the trailer, for example, that Vinícius Júnior will have the ++ symbol in the ‘winger on the inside’ role, because that’s how he likes to play for Real Madrid.
It’s worth mentioning that this new system will be present in all EA Sports FC 25 modes, from casual matches to Ultimate Team.
Each mode, however, will have some peculiarities. In Career, for example, it will be possible to increase a player’s experience in a particular role by training throughout the season.
2) New mechanics
Tactical fouls can now be committed by pressing R1+X (PS) or RB+A (Xbox). By executing the command, the player will pull their opponent’s shirt or body and the match will be immediately stopped, preventing a counter-attack.
It’s worth noting, however, that this action will be subject to a yellow card or even a red card if your player is the last man in defence.
Another new mechanic on the list of new features in EA Sports FC 25 is the customisable corner kick. You can now choose three different players to make up the area (one in the middle, one at the first post and one at the second). In previous editions, this was done automatically by the AI.
Finally, there are four new dribbles:
- Long dribble (requires 2 dribbling stars)
- Stop and go (requires 2 dribbling stars)
- Pedalling the ball (requires 4 dribbling stars)
- Pedalling with the tip of the foot (requires 5 dribbling stars)
3) Rush Mode
Rush is the new mode in EA Sports FC 25. It consists of fast-paced matches between two teams of five members each (a goalkeeper controlled by artificial intelligence and four outfield players, all human).
The games will be played on a smaller pitch, but the objective will remain the same: score as many goals as possible.
Rush will be present in several of the game’s existing modes, such as Ultimate Team, Clubs and Career, each with its own peculiarities.
In Career, for example, the Rush mode can be played between players at the grassroots level, in a sort of bi-monthly tournament.
4) End of contracts
That’s what you read! The community has asked and EA Sports has answered: contracts are officially no more in Ultimate Team mode.
From now on, players will be able to play all matches without restrictions, unless they are injured or serving a red card suspension. This change will certainly make the gameplay more fluid.
5) Graveyard of duplicate cards
The graveyard of duplicate cards is perhaps one of the new features in EA Sports FC 25 that fans of the Ultimate Team mode are most looking forward to.
In this new edition, it will be possible to store up to 100 non-negotiable cards from repeat players, which can be used exclusively in Squad Building Challenges (SMCs). Another change that will make the game more fluid and will allow players to maximise their rewards when opening packs.

6) Coaches with strengths and weaknesses
Each Ultimate Team coach has gained strengths and weaknesses that relate to their style of play in real life. From now on, therefore, they won’t just add chemistry points to the tactical scheme.
Pep Guardiola’s card, for example, will boost the team’s passing game, but will leave the attack more isolated than usual. Players will then have to study this new tactical aspect to build their teams.
7) Career mode with women’s teams and icons
Among the main new features in EA Sports FC 25, it’s worth mentioning that the developer has added two new ways to play the Career mode.
For the first time, it will be possible to play with female teams (or athletes) in five possible leagues: English, German, French, Spanish and North American. Champions League matches are also included in the package.
Players will also be able to compete in an individual career by controlling icons, even those from the Ultimate Team, such as Zinedine Zidane and Ronaldinho Gaúcho.
The legends, however, will be set in the present (and not the future). This means that Zidane will play with the current Real Madrid squad, sharing the dressing room with Vinícius Júnior, Karim Benzema and Jude Bellingham.
8) Live starting points
From now on, in Career mode, players will be able to choose a real-life starting point from which to begin their journey. For example: start a save with Liverpool on matchday five of the Premier League.
If in real life Liverpool are in last place with five defeats, Mohamed Salah injured and Virgil van Dijk sold to Barcelona, the career will start exactly like that, respecting the facts.
So far, this new feature is restricted to six men’s leagues (Premier League, Championship, La Liga, Serie A, Bundesliga and Ligue 1) and four women’s leagues (Barclays Women’s Super League, Arkema Première Ligue, Google Pixel Frauen-Bundesliga and Liga F).
