Blitz
The blitz is a term used when players create a defensive strategy to put pressure on the opposing team’s quarterback
Defense
The defense is basically the attempt to interrupt the opposing team’s attack to try to regain possession of the ball.
Defensive Back (DB)
The defensive back is the player who plays on defense. His job is to surround the opposing team’s receivers and intercept their passes.
Down
The term down is used for each of the four attempts that an American soccer team has to try to advance 10 yards.
End Zone
End zone is a term used to talk about the area at the end of the field where touchdowns happen.
Extra Point
The extra point is a term given to the attempt to score immediately after a touchdown. It only happens when the team kicks the ball between the posts on the field.
Face mask
Face Mask is a type of penalty that occurs when a player tries to remove the mask from the opposing team’s helmet.
Field Goal
Field goal is used to designate a kick that takes place between the goal posts, which occurs after a failed attempt to score a touchdown.
Fumble
Fumble is a term used when an American soccer player loses control of the ball during a match.
Holding
Holding is a type of penalty given to a player who tries to prevent the movement of the opposing player, and does so by grabbing him.
Interception
Interception is a term used when a defensive player manages to catch the ball that has been thrown by the opposing team’s quarterback.
Kickoff
Kick off means the initial kick given to follow the score of a touchdown or a field goal.
Linebacker (LB)
Linebacker is a term used for a defensive player who is responsible for covering passes and stopping the opposing team’s runs.
Offensive Line (OL)
Offensive line basically means a group of players who have the objective of protecting the quarterback, as well as opening up spaces for the next plays.
Offside
Offside is a penalty that occurs when a player crosses the line of scrimmage before the ball is snapped.
Pass interference
This term is used for a penalty that occurs when a player interferes with a receiver, and when a pass is received from the front.
Play Action
Play action is a term used to describe a play that happens when a quarterback pretends to hand the ball off to a running back.
Punt
Punt means a kick made when the team cannot advance far enough to try to score a touchdown or a field goal.
Quarterback (QB)
The term quarterback designates the main player on an American soccer team, responsible for leading his team’s attacks and passing the ball.
Red zone
A red zone is an area of the field between the opposing team’s 20-yard line and the endzone.
Running Back (RB)
Running Back is a term given to a player whose job is to run with the ball in his hands, advancing down the field to score points.
Sack
Sack is a term used when a defensive player manages to bring down the opposing team’s quarterback before he even passes the ball to another player.
Special Teams
Special Teams is the name given to players whose job it is to kick and return kicks.
Tight End (TE)
Tight end is the position of an American soccer player who basically blocks and catches passes.
Timeout
Timeout is the term used to designate a pause in the game that is requested by one of the teams. When this happens, the clock is stopped.
Touchdown
Touchdown is the highest score a team can score in American soccer. It happens when the team manages to cross the opposing team’s goal line while in possession of the ball.
Turnover
Turnover is a term used when possession is passed from one team to another.
Two-Point Conversion
Two-point conversion means a play made right after a touchdown, basically when the team tries to advance with the ball in hand in order to gain two points.
Wide Receiver (WR)
Wide receiver is a term given to a player who runs to catch passes made by the quarterback.
Yard
Yard means the measure of distance from the field in the game.
