ATP Finals points count

In general, points and sets are counted in the same way as in other tournaments, maintaining the general rules of tennis, including the point count:

  • Love: representa zero pontos;
  • 15: o primeiro ponto marcado por um jogador;
  • 30: o segundo ponto marcado por um jogador;
  • 40: o terceiro ponto marcado por um jogador;
  • Deuce: quando ambos os jogadores têm uma pontuação de 40. A partir daí, um atleta deve ganhar dois pontos consecutivos para vencer o game.

Tournament format

  • Fase de Grupos: os oito jogadores são divididos em dois grupos de quatro. Cada tenista joga contra os outros três do seu grupo. Os dois primeiros colocados do ranking mundial são os cabeças de chave, ou seja, eles não se enfrentam na primeira fase. Os demais são sorteados e distribuídos nos dois grupos.
  • Semifinais: Os dois melhores de cada grupo seguem para as semifinais e se enfrentam de forma cruzada.

How many sets does an ATP Finals match take?

Each match in the ATP Finals is played in three sets, meaning that you have to win two sets to win the match. In the event of a 1-1 draw, a tie-break decides the third set.

How long does an ATP Finals match last?

The average duration of a match at the ATP Finals is between 2 and 3 hours. However, some matches can last longer, depending on the physical endurance of the players and the fierce competition for points.

Unlike sports such as soccer, in tennis there is no time limit for the game, but rather a score that must be reached within each set for it to be considered won;

To win a set, the tennis player needs to score 6 points and still have a difference of two to his opponent;

Tie-breaking criteria 

If two or more players from a group in the first round of the tournament are tied, certain criteria are used to determine who will go through to the semi-finals. According to the ATP Final rules, the elements are evaluated in the following order: 

  1. Most wins in the group

Additional rules

  • Tempo cronometrado: os jogadores têm 25 segundos para sacar e 15 segundos entre os pontos.
  • Limite de tempo médico: cada jogador pode solicitar um tempo médico por partida.
  • Comunicação com o treinador: A comunicação com o treinador é limitada a cinco minutos por partida.

How many ATP ranking points do you earn at the ATP Finals?

According to the ATP Finals rules, many points are awarded to tennis players. Not only does the champion accumulate points, but with each victory, a number of points are distributed and accumulated:
